The announcement text: |
We are an Inc 500 honoree in both 2007 and 2008 and one of the leading Internet/Email Marketing and Publishing firms of NYC.
We are a results-driven company dedicated to providing highly successful marketing campaigns for our clients by reaching millions of people on a daily basis. Fueled by some of the most creative, intelligent and experienced professionals in our field, we are currently seeking a dynamic Junior or Senior Systems Administrator with MySQL and Linux/Unix skills.
We need an intelligent, promising Linux professional to round out our systems administration team and we are open to a range of skill levels.
Email marketing experience is a major plus!
Because we work extensively with open-source technologies, our team wants people with initiative and the ability to research solutions independently. We build custom tools and solutions by pushing off-the-shelf technology to its limits, and you should be comfortable Googling for documentation and solution ideas needed to make something work. We are looking for someone who isn`t afraid to dive in and learn new skills. This is an excellent learning opportunity for someone seeking to build or strengthen a strong open-source skill set, and we are willing to train if the candidate is willing to learn.
Responsibilities:
· Maintain Linux systems in production environments. Includes monitoring day-to-day system status, diagnosing and fixing failures, and ensuring load capacity.
· Assist the systems administrators in designing and building new infrastructure.
· Assist software developers by configuring and maintaining development and staging systems for testing new code.
· Some on-call responsibilities: Responding to notifications of outages and server faults, including escalation of issues.
Desired Skills: (Not all required, but the more the merrier.)
· Independent thinker and learner: Willingness and ability to assess problems and figure out solutions without extensive handholding.
· Linux systems administration: Designing, building, configuring, and operating Linux systems. Some experience with RPM-based Linux distros required, preferably Red Hat Enterprise or CentOS (versions 3-5).
· Apache HTTP server configuration and administration: Configuration file setup and control of a running web server. Examining logs and diagnosing configuration problems. Exposure to Perl in a web environment (CGI or mod_perl) will be helpful.
· TinyDNS server configuration and administration: Familiarity with the DJB DNS suite, especially TinyDNS. At least a basic understanding of the operations of the DNS, including the name resolution cycle, is required.
· Mail server administration: Some exposure to mail services and delivery concepts. Qmail experience is a plus.
· BASH scripting: Fluent reading/writing BASH scripts, plus understanding of basic shell techniques (job control, etc.).
· Perl scripting: Some exposure to Perl, including the ability to sight-read other programmers` code and participate in code reviews. DBI experience, in particular, will be very helpful.
· Python/PHP/Ruby/etc.: Any additional scripting language skills, especially related to web applications, are highly valued.
· MySQL server configuration and administration: Configuration file setup and control of a running database server. Examining logs, diagnosing configuration problems, changing user authentication parameters, and addressing load issues. Basic SQL query writing skills are a plus.
· Rsync file transfer utility.
